Mountains have always held a romantic place in the hearts of people. Mountains have been the subject of immense interest ever since we’ve become aware of them.
I recently made the at-times, white-knuckle ascent and descent of the Mt Washington Auto Road in New Hampshire to get a birds-eye view of the surrounding White Mountains.

It was a cool and mainly overcast day with a lot of haze across the escarpment. One of those days between the weather fronts that scrape the surface clean of haze for a short time.
I’m realizing now that I’m having a bit of trouble recalling the exact conditions because the trip was now over a month ago. I’ve only just decided that I want to put the images in a photo-essay.
I realize now that when I visit a natural space, I need to carve out some time that very day to draft some semblance of a sense of how it felt and what it looked like while it is still fresh in my mind. Of course, once I start adding the images, the day and experience will come flooding back into my consciousness.
These images aren't particularly abstract as I felt the lines, textures, and depths provide a level of inherent abstraction that is to be maintained. I attempted to treat my sense for abstraction very lightly. Although I did also capture some mind-altering rotational shots but I won’t include those here.
I was just completely awestruck by how blue the field of view was on that day. I wasn’t expecting it. I thought only the Blue Ridge Mountains only got this blue.
Who knew feeling blue could be so inspiring?
So, if you find yourself over New Hampshire way, I highly recommend that you take the auto road (or the escorted van tour or the cog railway) to the summit to take in the magnificence of the horizon in all directions.
I hope you enjoyed feeling a bit blue and I invite you to subscribe or follow as I will be sharing at least few more themed photo essays from the trip, at least one of which will share some images from Acadia National Park in Maine.
PaintsWithCamera is where I share my personal abstract photography. I mostly make abstract interpretations of nature spaces but also venture into some street, cityscape, interiors, and architectural interpretations.

Oh wow! I was on the Cog this summer! It was a gorgeous high visibility day and I took a ton of pictures of the succession of blues and greens of close and far-off mountains. Yours are way better than mine.
